My first futures firm was Topstep, and they were pretty much the best firm to trade with back then. However, with the release of TopstepX. the experience was getting slightly worse - though it seems to have improved now. I'd say their rules are still solid, aside from the latest news rule and contract limitations. Support can be a bit slow to respond, but they do get back to you and try to resolve issues adequately. Overall id say they're still a good firm to trade with and receive payouts from, with a solid dashboard and relatively easy rules.

Topstep is one of the giants and pillars of the prop firm industry. They have simple and easy rules to follow as well as cheap evals. Their support sucks but they eventually get to you. Topstep has been innovative and releasing new things recently so I’d definitely give them a try.

One thing I didnt expect with Topstep is the inactivity rule after getting into XFA. I’m not someone who wants to force trades just because the market looks dead, so the 30-day clock is something to keep track of. There’s no option to just park the account either. Not a huge issue for active traders, but if you’re waiting for only A+ NQ setups, that little timer can sneak up on you. Apart from that, the XFA flow is pretty clean and I like that you can run up to 5 active XFAs.

Topstep’s XFA setup is way more flexible now than the old straight-line grind. After passing, you can pick Standard or Consistency depending on how you actually trade. I went looking at the Consistency route and its basically “dont let one monster day carry the whole account” — 40% max for payout eligibility. The funny part is that consistency resets after every payout, so you’re basically starting a fresh scorecard each cycle. Not bad, just another number to keep on the dashboard before you start sending NQ into orbit.

Topstep is one of those firms where the XFA isnt really the finish line. You’re building a track record for the Live account, and I actually like that idea. What caught me off guard was how they work out the Live size from your active XFAs and payouts. Then only part of the starting balance is available straight away, with the rest sitting in reserve and unlocking as you hit profit targets. So yeah, passing the eval is only part of the grind lol. The whole setup makes more sense once you actually read how XFA → Live works.

One thing I actually rate about Topstep is the Back2Funded option. If you blow the XFA before taking that first payout, you can reactivate instead of going all the way back through another Combine. That saved me from feeling like one stupid session means starting from zero again. The catch is the reactivation cost, which isnt exactly pocket change. Still, having that second chance built into the account is pretty useful.

Topstep has that proper grind-to-funded feel ngl. The Combine is pretty straightforward once you understand the consistency thing, then you move into XFA and build it up from zero. I actually like that setup coz it forces you to earn your size instead of instantly going max contracts. Took me a bit to get the hang of it but after that the flow was pretty smooth. Solid trader structure overall.

Topstep feels more like a proper structured program than just another quick eval. The 50K Combine has a clear MLL and consistency target, and once you pass, the XFA gives you a separate path toward Live. I also like that the newer setup gives different payout paths instead of forcing everyone into the same model. The 50K XFA caps are still something to keep in mind though, especially if you're building a bigger account balance. Overall I found the rules pretty easy to understand, but you definitely need to know the payout conditions before getting too aggressive.

Topstep has a solid overall setup and the rules are not overly complicated, but my experience with the support side was not that great. The verification process was the bigger headache for me, mainly because there wasn't enough help when I actually needed assistance. The old plan had the $5K payout cap and the newer one also has its own payout limit. ProjectX is definitely one of the better platforms I've used, very clean and smooth. I didn't make it to funded though, so can't say much about the actual payout experience, especially for non-US traders.

The evaluation rules are super clear, and I love that they focus on building discipline rather than just trying to catch you slipping. Still one of the oldest prop firms out there, but TopStep has lost a lot of support in the community after their Project X fiasco that left traders in disarray after they announced that none of the other firms will have access to it after a series of outages that conveniently rugged many traders. I haven't traded with them since then, personally. They used to have very straightforward rules and was known as the anti-Apex prop firm but now they're kinda in the same category as Apex for me. Their support is slow/non-existent, they came out with some new plans but are quite expensive, and they still only use Project X platform.

Topstep has a solid overall system and is one of the more established futures firms. The rules are straightforward, the platform is reliable, and the overall trading environment is good.
The main downside for me was that it can be quite difficult to get through the evaluation and stay consistent under the rules. That said, the payout process and overall structure are good once you’re established.
