Apex vs Take Profit Trader

The main difference between Apex Trader Funding and Take Profit Trader is how you get paid. Apex pays a 100% profit split but caps every payout and closes each funded account after six payouts. Take Profit Trader pays 80% with daily payouts from day one, no consistency rule once funded and no payout caps.

Trader comparing Apex vs Take Profit Trader on two monitors showing purple and green futures charts

Apex charges per attempt and Take Profit Trader charges per month. An Apex evaluation is a one-time fee for 30 calendar days of access, and you can run up to 20 funded accounts. The Take Profit Trader (TPT) Test is a monthly subscription with no time limit, and a funded TPT account gives you full contract size from the first day with no daily loss limit.

Apex rebuilt its accounts in 2026, so older comparisons describe plans it no longer sells. The rules below come from each firm’s own rules pages, checked in October 2026. Prices, fees, targets and drawdowns are pulled live from our plan database, the same data behind our review pages. We compare the $50K account first, then every size.

How Apex Trader Funding and Take Profit Trader Work

Apex Trader Funding: EOD Trail and Intraday Trail

Apex Trader Funding sells two evaluations in four sizes: $25K, $50K, $100K and $150K. The EOD Trail uses an end-of-day drawdown plus a daily loss limit. The Intraday Trail uses an intraday trailing drawdown and has no daily loss limit in the evaluation.

Both are a one-time fee for 30 calendar days of access. There is no monthly rebill, no reset and no extension. If you hit the drawdown or run out of time, you buy a new evaluation. Pass, and you have 7 calendar days to pay a one-time activation fee for a Performance Account (PA), which is Apex’s simulated funded account. Our Apex Trader Funding review covers the full rulebook.

Take Profit Trader: Test, PRO and PRO+

Take Profit Trader calls its evaluation the Test. It comes in five sizes from $25K to $150K and is a monthly subscription with no time limit. Pass it and you move to a PRO account, which has no monthly fee, an 80/20 split and withdrawals from day one. PRO+ is a live account with a 90/10 split that Take Profit Trader offers by invitation. See the full Take Profit Trader review for every rule.

The real differences are time and structure.

  • Time pressure: Apex gives you 30 calendar days, weekends and holidays included. Take Profit Trader has no deadline, but you pay every month until you pass or cancel.
  • Passing fast: Apex lets you pass in one trading day and has no evaluation consistency rule, so one strong day can do it. The Take Profit Trader Test needs at least 3 trading days, and your best day must stay under 50% of total net profit. Missing that does not fail the Test. Your profit goal rises to more than twice your best day.
  • Failing: a failed Apex evaluation is gone. A failed Test can be reset for $79 to $199 depending on size.

Evaluation figures. Apex’s numbers are the same for the EOD Trail and the Intraday Trail. Both firms allow ten micros in place of one mini.

The two firms do not line up at every size, so read across the row for the account you plan to buy. For how Take Profit Trader’s limits work in practice, see our guide to Take Profit Trader leverage and contract limits.

Drawdown: End-of-Day vs Intraday Trailing

Both firms use both drawdown types. The difference is where each one shows up.

  • Apex: you pick the type when you buy, and it stays with you. An EOD Trail evaluation becomes an EOD Performance Account. An Intraday Trail evaluation becomes an Intraday Performance Account.
  • Take Profit Trader: the type changes as you move up. The Test uses an end-of-day trailing drawdown, PRO uses an intraday trailing drawdown that counts unrealized profit, and PRO+ goes back to end-of-day.

An end-of-day drawdown only moves up on your closing balance. An intraday trailing drawdown follows your highest balance in real time, open profit included, and never moves back down.

Both firms stop the trail at a fixed level in the funded account. In an Apex Performance Account the threshold stops at the starting balance plus $100, which is $50,100 on a $50K account. In a Take Profit Trader PRO account it stops at the starting balance.

If you want an end-of-day drawdown on a simulated funded account, the Apex EOD Trail is the option here. Take Profit Trader only uses it again at the invite-only PRO+ level. Not sure which type suits you? Read end-of-day vs intraday drawdown.

Apex funded accounts scale. A $50K Performance Account starts at 2 contracts with a $1,000 daily loss limit. Close a day at $1,500 of profit and you get 3 contracts. At $3,000 you get 4 contracts and a $2,000 limit, and at $6,000 the limit rises to $3,000. Tiers are set once a day from your closing balance, and they can move back down. Hitting the daily loss limit pauses trading for the session. It does not close the account. Full tier tables are in how Apex scaling works.

Take Profit Trader has no scaling plan and no daily loss limit. A $50K PRO account trades its full contract limit on day one, and the trailing drawdown is the only loss limit.

News is one place where Apex’s funded rules are looser. Apex lets you trade through releases with your normal strategy and bans news strategies that place orders on both sides of the market to gamble on the release. Take Profit Trader requires funded traders to be flat around three events. Details in Can You Trade News at Take Profit Trader?

Payouts Compared

This is the biggest gap between the two firms.

Apex Payouts: 100% Split, Capped Ladder

To request a payout from an Apex Performance Account you need:

  • 5 qualifying trading days before each payout. On a $50K account a day qualifies with $250 or more in net profit on the EOD Trail, or $200 on the Intraday Trail. The days do not have to be in a row.
  • A balance above the safety net, which is the starting balance plus the drawdown plus $100. That is $52,100 on a $50K account, and the minimum balance to request is $52,600.
  • No single day worth 50% or more of your profit since the last approved payout. See Apex’s 50% consistency rule.
  • A request of at least $500.

You keep 100% of every approved payout. Each payout has a maximum, and each account gets six payouts. After the sixth, the account is closed and you qualify again with a new evaluation.

Account size EOD Trail payouts 1 to 6 EOD Trail total Intraday Trail payouts 1 to 6 Intraday Trail total
$25,000 $1,000 each $6,000 $1,000 each $6,000
$50,000 $1,500, $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, $2,500, $3,000 $13,000 $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, $2,500, $3,000, $3,000 $14,500

Payout maximums are Apex’s own, checked in October 2026. The totals are our math: the most a single account can pay before it closes. The full breakdown is in our Apex payout ladder guide.

Take Profit Trader Payouts: Daily, No Consistency Rule, No Caps

The main payout condition on a PRO account is the buffer. Your balance has to be above the starting balance plus the max drawdown, which is $52,000 on a $50K account. Everything above it can be withdrawn, in any amount, as often as every day, starting on day one. There are no minimum profitable days, no funded consistency rule and no payout caps.

You receive 80% in PRO and 90% in PRO+. Withdrawals of $250 or less cost a $50 fee. On a Tradovate PRO account the move from the account to your TPT wallet is automated and takes 5 to 10 seconds, and wallet payouts are approved within 12 business hours. The full process is in our Take Profit Trader max payout guide, and you can see a payout we received in our Take Profit Trader payout proof.

Same Profit, Two Different Payouts

Say you are up $6,000 on a $50K funded account, so the balance is $56,000.

  • Take Profit Trader PRO: $4,000 sits above the $52,000 buffer. Withdraw it and you receive $3,200 at the 80/20 split. You can request it that day.
  • Apex EOD Performance Account: $3,900 sits above the $52,100 safety net, but payout 1 is capped at $1,500. You receive $1,500 once the five qualifying days and the 50% rule are met. The rest stays in the account for payout 2, which is capped at $1,500 as well.

On a small payout Apex’s 100% split wins: $1,500 withdrawn is $1,500 at Apex and $1,200 at Take Profit Trader. On a big month, or over the life of the account, the caps decide it. One $50K EOD Performance Account pays $13,000 at most. A PRO account has no limit. At 80% you match that $13,000 once you have withdrawn $16,250, and everything after it is extra.

$150,000 $1,190 + $139 = $1,329 $2,190 + $149 = $2,339 $360 a month + $130 activation

List prices with no code applied. Apex is a one-time fee per evaluation. The Take Profit Trader Test bills every month until you pass or cancel.

Prices With Code DGT

Code DGT works at both firms. Right now it takes 90% off Apex evaluations and 40% off the Take Profit Trader Test, and it waives Take Profit Trader’s $130 activation fee.

Account size Apex Intraday Trail with code DGT: evaluation + activation Apex EOD Trail with code DGT: evaluation + activation Take Profit Trader Test with code DGT
$25,000 $16.70 + $79 = $95.70 $49 + $99 = $148 $90 a month, no activation fee
$50,000 $24.90 + $89 = $113.90 $59 + $119 = $178 $102 a month, no activation fee
$75,000 Not offered Not offered $147 a month, no activation fee
$100,000 $79 + $109 = $188 $119 + $129 = $248 $198 a month, no activation fee
$150,000 $119 + $139 = $258 $219 + $149 = $368 $216 a month, no activation fee

Apex’s sale rate changes from one promotion to the next, and these figures change with it. The Apex Trader Funding discount code and Take Profit Trader discount code pages show the date each rate was last verified.

So with code DGT, reaching a funded $50K account costs $113.90 on the Apex Intraday Trail, $178 on the Apex EOD Trail and $102 at Take Profit Trader if you pass in your first month. The two bill differently after that: a second try at Apex is another $24.90 or $59, and at Take Profit Trader you pay $102 a month until you pass.

Apex also sells a No Activation Fee version of every evaluation at its own price, with nothing due when you pass. At $50K the Intraday Trail No Activation Fee evaluation is $490 at list price and $49 with code DGT, against $113.90 for the standard evaluation plus its activation fee. The gap between the two versions is different at every size, so compare both before you buy.

A failed attempt costs different money too. At Apex you buy a new evaluation at the current price. At Take Profit Trader a reset is $99 on the $50K, and a Test that breaks a rule keeps billing every month until you cancel it yourself.

Live Accounts: Apex Live Prop Trading vs PRO+

Neither firm sells a live account. Both invite traders from their simulated funded accounts.

  • Apex Live Prop Trading Program: Apex decides when to move you. All of your simulated accounts close, and the profit balances in your open Performance Accounts are tracked in a ledger Apex calls the Bonus Vault, which can add a bonus to your live withdrawals. The live account starts at $0 with a $3,000 end-of-day drawdown, 3 minis or 30 micros and no daily loss limit at the first level. The split is 90/10, payouts can be requested daily with a $500 minimum from profit above a $3,100 safety net, and there is no payout cap.
  • Take Profit Trader PRO+: the invitation follows a review of your PRO trading as a whole. Orders route to the exchange through Tradovate. The split is 90/10, there is no buffer and the drawdown is end-of-day. Your PRO account goes on hold with $5,000 of its profit frozen while the PRO+ is active.

Platforms, Commissions and Trading Hours

  • Platforms: Apex accounts run on Rithmic, Tradovate or WealthCharts. You choose when you buy and cannot convert later. See our Apex platforms guide. Take Profit Trader offers a CQG feed for TradingView, NinjaTrader and Tradovate, or a Rithmic feed for platforms such as Quantower, Bookmap, MotiveWave and ATAS.
  • Commissions: Apex’s Rithmic schedule lists $3.98 per round turn on ES and $1.02 on MES, and its other platforms have their own schedules. Take Profit Trader charges $4.50 per round trip per contract and $1.50 per micro on Test and PRO accounts.
  • Trading hours: both run from 6:00 PM ET to the next afternoon’s close, and neither allows positions to be held through it. Apex requires you to be flat before 4:59 PM ET. Take Profit Trader’s Test auto-closes open positions at 4:55 PM ET.

Account Limits and Copy Trading

Apex lets you hold up to 20 Performance Accounts at once, across both account types and all sizes. Take Profit Trader allows 5 active funded accounts across PRO and PRO+.

Both firms let you copy trades across your own accounts and ban copying with other traders. Both also ban hedging, which means holding opposite positions in the same or related markets. If you plan to run several accounts, read how many Apex accounts you should trade and our list of the best prop firms for copy trading.
